Our White House: The Web Site

Whatever you are celebrating today - the new president, the peaceful transition of power, or both, today is definately a day to celebrate.

I did a little book review on my personal blog that I should have cross posted here. Our White House: Looking In, Looking Out is a FAB book to have around right now with the Inauguration and upcoming presidential birthdays in February - or to have around any time, really.

Today I learned that the book has a web page, and it's wonderful. Check it out here.

(and happy inauguration day)

We haven't read them all yet, but we're enjoying the series. Perhaps you will, too.

Read Kiddo, Read!

This website, http://www.readkiddoread.com/home, was created by author James Patterson. It helps parents and teachers develop a kid-friendly library. James' son, Jack, "scoffed at the printed word," even though his father is a best-selling author and his parents read to him every night. "As Jack, 10, puts it, the problem was the product. 'With lots of books for kids, their parents want them to read.' he says. 'But it's not something the kid wants to read.'" Thus James put together this website.

It's also really important for parents to remember that many adult books are written at a 6th grade level, meaning the content is not appropriate. Just something to remember for parents with elementary kids!

Halloween Books

I started a Halloween bookshelf on the sidebar... I'll be adding to it over the next couple of days (when I'm not being interrupted by 3 adorable and yet very needy kids).

What are some of your favorite Halloween books? Leave a comment - I'd love to add them to the shelf!
